La Jaguar Pirana,[1][2] chiamata anche Bertone Pirana, è una concept car prodotta dalla casa automobilistica britannica Jaguar insieme alla carrozzeria italiana Bertone nel 1967.

Descrizione
Creata dalla matita di Gandini e realizzata dalla Bertone per il Motor Show di Londra del 1967, era basata sul telaio e sulla meccanica della Jaguar E-Type da 4,2 litri, con carrozzeria e monoscocca in acciaio.
La Pirana fu commissionata dal Daily Telegraph, uno dei principali quotidiani britannici, come esempio di "macchina ideale". Sir William Lyons venne contattato per partecipare al progetto e fornì alla Bertone il motore e il telaio di una E-Type. Dopo essere stata esposta al Salone di Londra, la Pirana è stato successivamente esposto al New York City Car Show e poi al Motor Show di Montreal. L'auto successivamente venne modifica, con l'adozione di altri due posti supplementari al posteriore e la trasmissione venne sostituita dall'originale manuale ad una automatica.
La Pirana, insieme alla Lamborghini Marzal, ha influenzato lo stile della Lamborghini Espada, che fu introdotto nel 1968, un anno dopo la Pirana.

The Bertone Pirana (or Jaguar Pirana) is a concept car created by Bertone for the 1967 London Motor Show at Earl's Court. The sleek GT car was based on the chassis and powertrain of the 4.2 litre Jaguar E-type, with a unique steel semi-monocoque body and luxurious interior. It was officially named "Pirana," not "Piranha" as some sources describe, although the badge on the rear of the car reads Piranha. This spelling was reportedly an aesthetic choice.[1] The Pirana was designed by Marcello Gandini, perhaps best known for styling the Lamborghini Countach. Unusually for a show car, the Pirana was commissioned by The Daily Telegraph, a leading British daily newspaper, as an example of an "ideal car." Sir William Lyons was contacted beforehand about the project and agreed to sell Bertone the Jaguar engine and chassis.[2][3][4] The car was originally registered "TGF 1F". After a successful showing at the London Motor show, the Pirana was subsequently exhibited at the New York car show and then at the British Motor Show in Montreal. The car was later converted to a 2+2 seater arrangement and the transmission changed from manual to automatic.
