È una continuazione della serie di berline Tatra aerodinamiche iniziata dalla Tatra 77.
Contesto
Era alimentato da un motore V8 montato posteriormente e raffreddato ad aria, con distribuzione mediante un singolo albero a camme in testa e due valvole per cilindro, con angolo tra le bancate di 90 gradi e cilindrata da 2,9 litri. Il propulsore produceva 85 cavalli e poteva spingere l'auto a quasi 100 mph (160 km/h) di velocità massima, venendo considerata tra le auto di produzione in serie omologato per la circolazione stradale più veloci della sua epoca.
Grazie alla sua forma aerodinamica, la Tatra 87 consumava circa 12,5 litri per 100 km. In seguito durante il secondo dopoguerra tra il 1950 e il 1953, la T87 fu equipaggiata con il motore V8 da 2,5 litri, più moderno e già impegnato sulla T603.

Der Tatra 87 war ein Pkw der Oberklasse mit luftgekühltem Achtzylinder-V-Motor des tschechoslowakischen Herstellers Tatra. The Tatra 87 (T87) is a car built by Czechoslovak manufacturer Tatra. It was powered by a rear-mounted 2.9-litre air-cooled 90-degree overhead cam V8 engine that produced 85 horsepower and could drive the car at nearly 100 mph (160 km/h). It is ranked among the fastest production cars of its time. Competing cars in this class, however, used engines with almost twice the displacement, and with fuel consumption of 20 liters per 100 km (11.8 mpg). Thanks to its aerodynamic shape, the Tatra 87 had a consumption of just 12.5 litres per 100 km (18.8 mpg). After the war between 1950 and 1953, T87s were fitted with more-modern 2.5-litre V8 T603 engines.[5][fr] Tatra 87
La Tatra 87 est une routière tchécoslovaque, produite entre 1936 et 1950 par le constructeur automobile Tatra.
